An author in need of a carrot

I'm absolutely dying to contact my agent about a sub that's been out for 4 months today. I know she'll contact me if she's heard anything and she's really good about following up, but I'm not used to sitting on my hands while someone else does the work. Yet, isn't this exactly what we hire an agent for?

I also need to finish my current revisions and I'm having a hard time concentrating. So, I've told myself that I can't follow up on the current submission until I get my revisions done and the manuscript polished.

Suddenly, I'm feeling a little more motivated.

What incentives do you give yourself to get something done?
